Celery – the skinny man’s favorite food

Which one are you?

Which one are you?

If you want to lose weight and be healthier – eat celery.

Celery delivers antioxidants and dietary fiber

Celery is not only packed with vitamin C, vitamin K and numerous antioxidants, but is high in dietary fiber. Dietary fiber is key if you want to lose weight as it provides a boost to your body’s natural digestion system which can lead to weight loss.

The high water content and insoluble fiber in celery give it cleansing properties few vegetables can compete with. Celery is extremely low in calories with just 1% of your daily value contained in a 110 gram serving, according to nutritiondata.self.com. I can remember being told you burn more calories chewing celery than you do consuming it – now I see why! Also, sometimes just the act of eating something can suppress false hunger urges.

Celery is good for your heart.

The Chicago team also explained that celery and its oil have been used in Oriental folk medicine for centuries to treat circulatory disorders and high blood pressure.

According to the World’s Healthiest Foods, scientists have now identified at least a dozen types of antioxidant nutrients in celery.

Remember, antioxidants prohibit the oxidation of molecules in the body. This is important when it comes to free radicals. The body produces antioxidants and free radicals naturally; however, in the typical western diet, free radicals can overwhelm our natural ability to produce antioxidants. This is where eating a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables comes in.

If you’ve read past at articles at RHGF, you’re familar with the word phytonutrients. Celery is rich in phytonutrients which contain many antioxidant properties.

“In animal studies, celery extracts containing the above-listed phytonutrients have been shown to decrease risk of oxidative damage to body fats and risk of oxidative damage to blood vessel walls.”
